Re: how many miles per gallon do you get?

Miles Per

Sprinter V6 TD low roof Penthouse. Worst tank 17.5, best tank 21.5. We try to drive at 65mph. If I don't use the cruise control I find myself driving at 75mph. The van just rolls along so smooth and quiet it's hard to go slow. I can't drive at 55mph the big rigs run up on you too fast and the drive becomes tedious if you are covering any miles. Overall average is about 20mpg. I think this is pretty good for a 7500 pound rig with that much frontal area.

Re: how many miles per gallon do you get?

Anyone have a banks system on their rig or know it if is compatible with the Ford E series?
These systems are supposed to increase gas mileage and it might be interesting to hear of some anecdotal evidence of this or any other system and its increase on gas mileage.

What about differences in mileage for the 7.3, 6.8 or is it 6.4 and 6.0L engines? Any major differences there?

That would be hard to tell. Weight and driving habits would come into play. One thing I have noticed lately (after re-routing the oil lines) is my mileage has seemed to have gone up on my 6.0 PSD. I kind of hope this is not the case and more due to engine break in. Anyway on a flat run with no wind (while using the cruise ctrl), I'm getting about 15MPG where before it was 13-14.

Re: how many miles per gallon do you get? How about 20?

We were driving out of Terlingua, TX a few days ago on our way to Alpine and then home. We had a 30 to 50 mph wind straight behind us for 50 miles. I checked the mpg over that stretch and we averaged 20mpg running 70mph. That part was nice, but when we started heading east, we had the same 30 to 50 mph winds, but as a crosswind for almost the next 1,000 miles. Hope I haven't worn out the front tires from turning right for 1,000 miles. We stayed on the road, but there were a couple of gusts that moved us pretty hard. We also only got 11 or 12 mpg the rest of the way, but that's about what we usually get.

Re: how many miles per gallon do you get?

I calculate Wilson at Zero MPG, that way i am never dissappointed

Edit 08 June 2010
Did round trip from So Cal to Las Vegas, Mojave Preserve and home
Cruise control 70mph on the hwy, running the AC
(for those of you that dont know, Wilson is a Crusier Top with a Norad Helipad by Aluminess)
Avg 10 mpg
I am ok w/ that

Baseline with an empty 1996 7.3 PSD 4wd Club Wagon EB 15.6 m

Empty 1996 7.3 PSD 4wd Club Wagon EB 15.6 mpg. All highway.

OK I just picked up my club wagon in Salt Lake and drove back to Phoenix. 5 - 10 MPH over the speed limit all the way except within town limits. So 80 -85 on the interstate and 70 -75 on the backroads.

Absolutely no resistance in the tires. They are as close to bald as you can get and still show signs of tread. Also no AC. Not because I was being frugal but because it didn't work even after I checked with the seller several times. In the PO defense they dropped it down to Advanced Four Wheel Drive when it was snowing so it probably worked well enough then.

Also I doubt I will do a mileage check again for a long time as the tank leaks when I fill it to the top. Had to fill and drive quickly.

Re: how many miles per gallon do you get?

I get 8mpg sometimes----I get 14mpg sometimes-----I get 12mpg sometimes----mostly I have stopped keeping track! Every time I get into a discussion with other owners my mpg is always higher or lower than theirs!

Re: how many miles per gallon do you get?

Average fuel economy for 78,035 miles is 15.22mpg. X-way it is higher, low speed and stop and go it is lower.
