how many miles per gallon do you get?

I averaged 11.3 on my 2800 mile trip into the Rockies in July. I also used premium and used my GPS for accurate distances. I think I weigh about 8500lbs. 40k on the motor. I agree with Jage on using higher octane at altitudes. Performance improves.
I'm at sea level and have gone back to regular.
Anybody else have anecdotal evidence on using a synthetic oil and getting better mileage? Is it cost effective?

It should be the other way around. At sea level you get more air into the cylinder and thus cylinder pressure goes up. Higher pressure needs higher octane. At higher altitudes, less air, lower pressure and lower octane requirements.

My Chevy P/U gets about 10% better mileage with premium, high altitude or sea level.

Just reading over this post and I noticed that I am getting way few MPG than most you guys.

I have Quigley with nothing in it (no SMB) 5.4 gas, and just got 11.5 mpg for my first full tank. It does have aftermarket tires, but, damn, Im going to have to look into superchip, scantool, and maybe exaust.
Any suggestions about a better mileage chip?

Hate to keep this topic alive, but last trip I checked my mileage at 4 different speeds for about 25 miles at each speed. I reset my ScanGuage each time. They were about as expected, but I just can't drive at 60.

Those numbers are exactly what we should expect to see....

I think I posted on this here before.
We should expect to see an 8% to 10% increase in fuel economy for every 5mph we reduce our speed between 75 and 45.

We started learnin' up on this when we were learning to drive our Hybrids. Earlier this year one of the big package delivery company did a study and decided to restrict their trucks to 55mph because they would save 8% on fuel from when they were driving 60mph.

24% to 30% savings when slowing from 70 to 55mph is significant.

It really opens your eyes when you are getting 48mpg at 70mph!

We just drove our V8 5.4l E250 from Austin to San Diego, ~1300 miles, and averaged a little over 14 mpg, doing 70mph the whole time.

OK well I love this topic as most of my friends ... and actually every person in Europe are mad about mpg... I thought of calculating environmental impact not per car but per person sitting in the car:

1 liter of gas burnt = 2 kg of co2
I use 0.17 liters of gas per 1km
that is 5.8823 units per liter
2/5.8823=0.34kg of co2 per 1km

conclusion my Chevy Van emits 340gCO2/km (cat G*)
a Toyota Prius emits 104gCO2/km (cat A*)

Now for the fun part
Prius seats 5 adults so the impact is 104/5= 20.8g of co2 per person per km
My Chevy seats 12 so the impact is 340/12= 28.333 of co2 per person per km

This means that the Chevy has an impact equivalent per person to a car emitting 141.6g of co2 per km

OK calculation are approximate and I am not even sure as co2 emissions seems to be quite a dark art ... wonder why

This is VERY interesting......if I understand it! I wish someone more knowledgeable about what a "carbon foot print" is could calculate the real lifetime foot print of a Pious..oh excuse me.. a Prius versus a gas powered one ton truck. I have a feeling the Prius is not as eco-friendly in that regard as many people think if one factors in the effects of manufacturing, usage and ultimately the disposal of the vehicle. Just wondering.
