Re: Urgent: Husband just called, he's driving w/o electronics!

I wouldn't be able to tell him that either, Hehe, it's the thought that counts.

SO... Did he make it? It's been almost an hour and a half since the last update! How many volts left?

Re: Urgent: Husband just called, he's driving w/o electronics!

hmmm...nope he's not home yet and hasn't answered his phone in the last half hour. Good thing I'm not a worrier! ...phone's ringing...

Update: he's within about 60 miles of home, so that makes things easier if things go bad...

Volt meter reading is 7.5 (so it seems to be losing about .3 per 30 minutes of driving at this point, although it doesn't seem that this is a linear progression). He did find it interesting that when he takes his foot off the gas pedal, the voltage hits 7.9.

Will send an update in the next hour or so, unless this becomes a true emergency rather than simply technical adventures with the SMB...

P.S. Turns out he wasn't answering his phone because he was talking to Jeffrey--thanks Jeffrey (seriously!)

Re: Urgent: Husband just called, he's driving w/o electronics!

Round of applause! A ski-tanned, relieved hubby just walked in to plenty of dog barking and kids cheering. The spedometer went out 30 miles before home, but no additional outages seemed to have occurred.

Thank you all for your help, good vibes, and great attitudes. Watch for his posts...although he wants to remain anonymous!

So, for now, signing off...with deep thanks!

He could always jump the separator to tie the house batteries in and start draining those to. It would probably be better for the starter battery health, and ensure he makes it home.

Gotta love the real-time updates and diagnostics.

Glad to hear he's home safe and sound.

Re: Urgent: Husband just called, he's driving w/o electronics!

Turns out that AAA replaced the starter battery under the hood (for free). It started up fine after that. The volt meter at that point read 13.3 and the AAA guy said it should be reading higher (over 13.8) so the SMB is getting a once-over to see exactly what the story is.
