insurance

As I sat here and pondered every facet of owning a sportsmobile, I called up my insurance agent (who happens to work for Farmers) and asked him to let me know how much approximately buying a used sportsmobile would cost to insure. He hmm'd and Haw'd a bit... trying to find a sportsmobile or something to compare it to. I told him it was a certified RV and that it WOULDN'T be my daily driver. Again he through around some numbers and he came up with about $100 a month. That was for full coverage for it. I thought it was awful high - even considering it was a 4wd. I mean - Thats more than my car insurance and I drive that every day. Even for CA, I thought it was high. I could be wrong though. What do you guys think?

Joe

That sounds too high for an RV insurance. We have State Farm and I don't remember our agent quoting us with an amount like that. The only thing she suggested is to bring the final invoice so she can assign the proper value for it and not the E-Series chasis only. I will let you know the final mothly insurance once we pick up or SMB. Cheers!

I have Farmers for all my vehicles and house. I pay $686.00 a year for the SMB. It is only a 2WD and also fully registered as a motorhome in Oregon.

I tried registering my SMB with Farmers and it was expensive and I didn't like the manner in which it was registered (chassis and conversion seperate). It also wouldn't have netted me the used price had it been totaled. For less than half the price I went with progressive and wound up switching all my vehicles and renter's insurance to them.

under $600/yr in Colorado

We just got a 2001 4x4 diesel SMB and it is ~$550/year for RV coverage with Geico here in Colorado. We also have a pickup truck insured with them.

I just put a comment in one of the other topics about my experience with our insurance agent. I called last week to insure our new to us 2004 RB50 with the V10, and now almost done Salem Kroger 4x4 conversion. I was not looking forward to explaining to the agent why our van was worth so much when it was an E350 Ford Econoline. When I started to explain, she knew what I had because she and her husband have one. For what it's worth, our cost was $1,000 per year, but I have high coverage. oclv

Garage
Mine is about 100 per month for a 115k vehicle with full replacement cost for 5 years at that price. At first I was told full replacement cost was to replace the van with the same options but now have been told only up to 115k...I give up. Can't seem to hold them down and force the real answer. It's with GMAC Good Sam.

We're now paying (why does it cost more to have 2 drivers?) yearly $420 ($35/month) at Progressive for RV coverage, valued at $70K. Unlike some places I called, Progressive actually knows what a Sportsmobile is.
