Re: Is this a record? 1,045 miles...

A differential problem can cause an ABS light in 2-ways.

1) Metal particles/chunks stick to the Hall effect sensor because it basically a magnet (just the metallic goo which was limited slip friction material gets mine, and I have to clean it about every 25,000)

2) Axle shafts are no longer turning the same speed, and the PCM is detecting this. The system is very sensitive. Even very slight variances are detected, which is how the electronic brake proportioning works.

Re: Is this a record? 1,045 miles...

Just curious, would that be the same with an open diff as well? I've had my rear LSD chatter so bad it freaked me out and it was because they didn't put in some type of additive it required. Lockers don't require that do they?

Re: Is this a record? 1,045 miles...

Also, I only have experience with ez-Lockers, which are always engaged, but doesn't a properly functioning locker release when under driving conditions such as tight turn on pavement? I miss the click/click/click from the rear end of my Cherokee and never had a problem with it on pavement (didn't hammer down in a tight turn either...)

goblue, technical discussion aside this is painful at so few miles and tough to read. Looking forward to a prognosis. Just think that beautiful blue rig could have left you up in the snow instead of crapping out in your driveway!

I agree with Jage and hope my post didn't seem insensitive. I had problems at 2Kmi with my radiator...a freak thing. I think your trouble is just a fluke thing as well, but I understand how you feel. I'm sure all will go good for ya and you will be on the road soon. SMB is very good to work with when a construction problem is encountered. Please report back what you find.
Dave

Yeah, mine was used, but the check engine light came on 2 minutes outside the previous owners driveway..

I did at least wait for the first 500 and changed the Atlas fluid before getting up there....with snow discussions like this it's REAL hard not to drop everything and head out!

We will have 9 day totals around 4-8 feet at lake level, 8-12 ft. above 7000 ft., and 12-17 feet along the crest. That is quite excessive for a little over a week of snowfall and there is not many more places to put all of the snow. I also recommend getting out your camera and taking shots around Tahoe of the amazing snowpack as who knows it could be another 16-28 years before we have this much snow again if we go by the law of averages.

And it's still coming down!! Another 90" expected by Monday.

Daveb, no insensitivity, you're just providing information which is what we're here for!

Thanks to everyone, hopefully will have an answer by end of day...so far, both Ford and SMBW said not to worry, someone will definitely take care of it. Good to hear.

OH and yes, very happy and LUCKY it was in my driveway.

I guess it's best to happen early, easier to diagnose. And really good you were not stuck way out there. Good Luck on the repairs, let us know outcome.
Sharp looking rig!

goblue: Don't let the Ford dealer rip you off. My dif went out last month while I was down in Marin and I went first to a local Ford dealer - Novato Ford. They quoted me $3,300 and 4 days in the shop.

I called BS on that. On the recommendation of the tow truck driver, I had it towed to a shop in Santa Rosa that does nothing but differentials. Five hours and $1,000 later, I drove home.

Re: Is this a record? 1,045 miles...

Glad to here it's getting done. BTW I was the lucky guy who had his vehicle broke into and trashed at the dealership. I'm glad that you were warned by one of the members here...nice to know some of use are looking out for each other. And like the others say, watch out for Ford. Make sure they know SMB might be paying the bill and they should agree on a price. I doubt Ford is going to warrantee a locker SMB put in.

Good Luck GoBlue

nothing to add... just had to say that is probably one of the prettiest (pretty in a manly way) vans I have seen. Makes my refrigerator white van look down in shame.
