Just a rant

In the back of my mind, I have been half heartedly thinking about painting my SMB fuel cap yellow to indicate diesel only. This would be some cheap insurance if someone else fuels the vehicle (Oregon and NJ come to mind).

So before thinking about it too much, I thought that I'd do a quick internet seach to see about yellow fuel caps. Well I was surprised there were ones, but they're installed on some (all?) flex-fuel vehicles. Great, so now instead of having some pump jockey put unleaded gasoline into my diesel tank, I'll have him put ethanol in it instead.

Most of the world, yellow in the context of fuel equates to diesel. Here, who knows.

I actually painted mine green since this seems to be the common color for the pump at US gas stations. I was also worried about having the wrong fuel added, especially at full service stations like Baja & Oregon, which is one of the main reasons I went with a locking gas cap.

I had never thought about that.... even though I have worked in the past for a company that makes gas pumps....

We get jellow Jerry cans to signify Diesel.
The Diesel fuel pumps are marked with green graphics.
The flex-fuel fuel-caps are marked with yellow.....

Soooo what color are the Flex-fuel fuel pump graphics ????

Herb:

What about stenciling the word "DIESEL FUEL ONLY" by your cap. Just a thought. Hopefully, the attendant can read. A locking cap would sure help.

I hope that they didn't put gas in your diesel tank. The only thing worse than that that I can think of is putting Jet Fuel in a plane instead of Avgas.
