LA area SMB service.

This was mentioned in another thread, but I wanted to flag it more clearly for owners who might have missed the info.

Bob's Brake and Alignment in Lawndale is an excellent SMB service and repair provider. I've been to them several times and they've done all the service on my van. Ditto for several other SMB owners, so they are becomming quite familiar with the unique needs of the SMB. Ask for Hubert when you call. If you get there early, they can usually get all the work done in the same day. I usually just hang around and work on my laptop inside the van while service is being performed. In fact, that is what I'm doing now. The SMB works pretty well as a mobile office.

Wifi is one thing they don't offer. I had to use the slow and not always reliable Verizon network.

They're an Amsoil dealer and I had them do all of my bypass filter switches. Also had them change fluids in front and rear differentials, transfer case and tranny and change fuel/air filter. Ditto coolant. Lube suspension and driveshafts, inspect brake wear and do an alignment. They do suspension work too and in the near future I'll need to have them replace my ball joints. These seem to be wearing fast on late model vans. Nice guys, quality work and fair prices.

Mine and a lot of other late model SMB have an Amsoil oil filtration system installed. This system uses two special oil filters, called bypass filters, mounted on the frame of the van near the tranny. So by filter switches, I mean that Hubert has replaced the two bypass filters for me. It is something I could probably do myself, but it is a very messy job and I'm prone to fubaring stuff like that.

I see you're in Venice so he is relatively close to you.

ahhhh, i see. filter switches...switching out the filters. as opposed to switches that one flicks on or off (which is what i thought you were talking about). i, too, have the amsoil setup and there is much i need to learn about it.

thanks for the clarification.

Thanks EM. Good to know. I'm in Hollywood, so Lawndale is not too far to go for good service.
