Re: Looking for advice from mud flap users

Thanks Jage for the kink comment on my mudflap system.

I got really tired of the sides of the van being plastered with road yuck that the flares didn't catch.

I got JC Whitney's generic flaps, which are about $20/pr. with a couple of spares.

For mounting, I fabricated some sheetmetal brackets that are securely mounted to the van, with a short section of rubber flap attached securely to the bracket. The flaps themselves are mounted to the short section with plastic pushpins. I made some hooks out of 10 ga wire that hold the flaps away from the tires when backing up over obstacles (when I remember) to keep the tires from tearing them off.

Since I seem to forget to hook the flaps out of the way as consistently as I should, it's nice to have the flaps pull away with no more damage than a few cheap plastic pushpins.
