Re: Mitsubishi based Sportsmobile
I have looked at these but what seems odd to me is that with a modern, moderate displacement, 4 cylinder, high efficiency turbo-diesel motor it is still only rated at 12.x mpg. (mpg from Mitsubishi website, 4wd). Unloaded it weighs about what an empty E van weighs. I realize it's a heavier duty vehicle and is not exactly streamlined but it still seems a bit out of whack? I get 12-13 from a 5.8 liter normally aspirated gas V8.

Re: Mitsubishi based Sportsmobile
I don't get it either. If you are going to develop a camper based on a cutaway chassis why not stick with Ford?

Re: Mitsubishi based Sportsmobile
I would think SMB is just nervous based upon Ford's back and forth of the future of the Econoline based van platform. Twice Ford has announced it was going away, only to have Ford completey prove themselves wrong the first time, and the second time, Ford later came back and said the cut-away platform would be around longer (though I'm not sure Ford provided an absolute drop dead date).
If I were in SMB's shoes, I'd be very concerned about the longevity of the platform that makes up the majority of their business, and I'd be actively looking at options.

Re: Mitsubishi based Sportsmobile
I hear yes, but I stopped in there unannounced a few months ago and I had to almost search the property to find any one. They had 2 vans with no front ends on them in the work bay.
