I happened to find this forum doing a google search for a Quigley a while back. The all purpose vehicle subject came up on a MTB trip this summer and it's been and itch I am starting to scratch.
I like to hunt, fish and ride among other things and looking for something that fits my lifestyle. Today my 2005 F350 CC serves that purpose. It is more of a toy hauler than a work horse except when using it around the house for landscaping projects.
It also has a 6.0l diesel that has had all the major issues resolved including new heads so I expect the engine to last a while though it has 168k now. That got me thinking about using it as a platform to build a custom RV, or find a 2wd van I like to start with and move the 4x4 over to it?
Or sell the truck and buy something closer to being completed.
Right! But do I use the truck as donor or start with a 4x4 van?
Can't help you with the 4x4 question. Although there was another thread about a forum member who had a 4x4 ambulance and a 2wd SMB and how if he were to use the 4x4 components from the ambulance, it would render the ambulance useless because the 2wd components wouldn't work on the donor car. Not sure if you were planning on swapping the front to retain two complete vehicles, but its something to consider. Seems as though adding 4x4 to a van will cost about $12,000 give or take. Sometimes you can find a decently priced 4x4 van on craigslist that you would be able build out.
