niche / recessed shelf install?

I just opened up the trim on my 15-passenger E-seires, and noticed there's ~3.5-4 inches of void / space behind the trim. Anyone ever try to put a niche shelf in their wall panel?

I'd do it in a heartbeat if I had a perfect shaped box handy, like this:
(just the lower portion)

... but not finding anything perfect.

Let me know if you've done something or have suggestions for a ready-made solution (I know I could build something, but not worth it right now).

Thanks.

Which section of trim are you referring to? If your current paneling doesn't have any built in storage, there was a driver's side 2nd and 3rd row trim panel that had a factory optional pair of "cubbies" and pull out cup holders that you can still find in junkyards. I scored one for $20 a few years ago and its been super useful for my kids to keep all their travel entertainment stuff in one compartment and all my motorcycle tie down straps in the other compartment. I've never seen a factory cubby for the passenger side though.

Yeah-- thx. We have the cubbies on the driver's side. The place I'm looking is aft of the barn doors above the wheel well (+/-). The horizontal gap narrows to 3 in as you get closer to the rear-most bench, but closer to the barn doors there's 4 inches of space. Just need enough width to rest my cell phone and headlamp there when sleeping in the back.
