Re: Nissan Roadtrek's are just plain ugly

Does anyone remember when Homer Simpson designed a car? I think this looks better than the Fiat.

Re: Nissan Roadtrek's are just plain ugly

I agree that vans are not good looking -- in large part because they are primarily work trucks designed for function over aesthetics. The thing I find strange about the Nissan specifically is that it looks like a version of Suburbans and Jeeps of the 50s or 60s (not sure of time period). The Nissan is bigger, but the principle of a pickup chassis with van-like cargo area isn't very new.

I think that once we get used to the looks of the new Transit our Econolines will look old and outdated. Even if it became a classic like old Mustangs it will take a long time to get there.

Also, while I'm not crazy about the looks of the ProMaster, the new for 2015 Ducato looks better to me. I hope the revised front end makes it to the US ProMaster. If nothing else I hope they paint the bumper.

Re: Nissan Roadtrek's are just plain ugly

We'll agree to disagree.

I think vans look great, and one aspect that I completely love is the fact that vans are all about function over form. It is the truest sense of a utility vehicle, and most SUVs, crossovers, and the newest generations of vans share far more lineage with mini vans than utility vans. As much as I personally disdain many of those vehicles, they do fit the bill for most people, so that's the direction the car companies are taking.

Econolines will eventually look old and outdated? Maybe, but given the basic design has been around so long, I'd say 'iconic' is a better descriptor.

As for the ProMaster picture you posted, I immediately thought of this:

That's a beautiful pug. Are we agreeing or disagreeing on that?

I can't imagine someone not loving that face.

The dog looks better than an Aztec, but not by much. Not sure where the Promaster fits in there. The Transit and Fiat vans look better me for some reason. A bit more like a German Shepard, perhaps...................with mange.

Re: Nissan Roadtrek's are just plain ugly

I stopped at Outside Vans last night. They had a new NV van out front. Actually doesn't look terrible once they're done. It is 4x4, converted by Advanced in SLC. Outside Vans wasn't really happy with the conversion though. It uses Titan front end, but they get tire rub on the engine block if you turn too sharp Also I suspect fuel economy this is probably single digits. Advanced did add a 40-gallon tank but apparently that isn't woking right either.

Outside vans says they will update their website with Ford Transit info within the next couple weeks.

Is there at least a ladder on the passenger side? That roof rack is way up there.
