Can't exactly sing their praises either. They did a pretty good overall job with our design and build.
However, when it came to running our air conditioner on an inverter, which they ADVERTISE that they can do, they waited until we flew to Austin to pick the van up before admitting they couldn't. It was left to me to research, find, buy, and install the proper components to make it work.
They promise more than they can deliver, and they know it.

On the Austin thing...
Everyone needs to understand there are 3 sep factories...Indiana is the original, then Austin and Alan has West...and that one is like a franchise...that is why SMB West does it's own 4x4 conversion.
No company is perfect, but some care more than others.

Re: Now, a Word About Sportsmobile -The Company
My SMB is going to be 20 years old next year and when I needed to replace all of the little plastic nubs that hold the penthouse rub rail on, I called them up and tried to order some. Instead they asked me for my address and shipped them to me for free. If I had the money, I would definitely consider buying a new SMB because I cant think of any better service then getting free replacement parts nearly 20 years after the original purchase, regardless of how cheap the parts are.

Re: Now, a Word About Sportsmobile -The Company
One more vote for Austin. While I don't doubt there are issues with SMB, they were extremely helpful and good to deal with when I dropped by for a hand full of bits and pieces for my 1995 SMB. Reasonable prices, photocopying product info so I could order things they no longer used....just good customer service.

I don't think SMB can be beat. In 2006 the Sprinter will have a major redesign by MB. In 2007 I plan to put in the order for SMB #2. I am already making notes for the design.

Keith

Re: Now, a Word About Sportsmobile -The Company
I thought my Way-Back machine got stuck there for a second....
I completely agree, SMB is a pleasure to work with, I have worked with both SMB West and SMB TX, and both were great. The after-sale customer service has been amazing. I have never worked with any company tha would do the things they have done.

I'll barely have time to finish designing it!
