Mine is mounted underneath and behind the rear axle. I do not think I have the resonator mounted as I cannot see it outside of the genset.
As for noise, I have no issues inside the SMB. In the PH and the front, you can barely hear it. I think the SMB's insulation, cabinets and window placement are key to a quiet interior. We have a pantry and large cabinet over the exhaust pipe side which muffles interior sound.
My generator has the drop-down screws. So the generator is easily accessable.
The original owner used Onan/Cummins for service. I still have yet to change the oil. Just ran it yesterday, fires right up and runs great.
Only 140 hours on it after 13 years. I've only used it at Mamouth Cave. All other places provide power and ban generators.
Onan reccomends to run for 1/2 hour every month. I run it 15 minutes everytime I remember (1 to 3 months). This is to keep oil moving and fuel from drying out in the carberator.
The Indy 500 had a death due to a nearby generator. I have not used the generator for an extended time as I am concerned about safety.
