Oregon Vehicle License - what is an RV
Oregon defines an RV as a vehicle that has been designed, reconstructed, or permanently altered to provide facilities for human habitation, i.e., permanent sleeping and cooking facilities.
Is a gaucho a permanent sleeping facility? I am looking at CCR's that won't allow campers or RV's so I want to register as a normal vehicle.
Thanks,
Keith

Yes the gaucho is permanent. Even though its not always a bed, its not a cot that you toss in on weekends.
If the Sprinter was originally titled as a Passenger van (bus) or cargo van, then non-rv registration should be super easy, and may even be the default when you provide the VIN. If it was originally titled as an "incomplete vehicle" it may be harder to change the registration type.

As I read the paragraph the key word is "and". If you do not have a stove the gaucho you should be OK. Not sure how they treat a sink and potty.

Maybe I will replace the gaucho with a couch. Kitchen wise we have a stove top and a microwave.
Under their definition a VW Eurovan would be an RV.

Re: Oregon Vehicle License - what is an RV
When I registered mine, they actually went out and looked at it. Since you pay by the foot for a RV, it can be higher then if you registered it as a straight van. They did not seem to forgiving about it when I did mine, but that was 11 years ago and I wasn't looking to not register it as a RV.

Re: Oregon Vehicle License - what is an RV
In WA they have the same definition, sleeping AND cooking; I wound up paying the same amount as an RV registration due to the GVWR.

You might want to verify the HOA has the same definition as the state does.

Good luck fighting the HOA!!
They probably won't care how it is registered, it will be based on an opinion of what it looks like. Once you start splitting hairs, your life will be Hell, might as well move out now!!

Amen! HOA's, difficult registrations, actually going out and looking at your vehicle?????
I'm sticking with the backwoods hillbillies and simplicity here in TN. $24 a year here, and they don't care what it is, or what it looks like! I did have more hassles building a garage on my own property than I wanted, but at least no HOA!

Re: Oregon Vehicle License - what is an RV
Even though our rig looks totally like a class B RV it is registered as a passenger vehicle by State Farm. Why? Because of its use... it is my wife's daily driver... not a motor-home we take vacationing and then park it in the yard. This for us was good news as we did not want our rig as an RV (we are in Oregon).
