saabman, yes, it has a bed but I've pulled the mattress boards because my kids don't really like it and it adds a little headroom at the couch when the top is down (which is most of the time) and a bit more storage by not having the mattress board up there.

If I were to get an SM, I'd order it with the lower vs. taller fixed top even though you get lots more room with a pop top. Raising and lowering the top is easy but it's a nuisance and not usable if you trying to be stealthy.
