I'm interested in the Ventline VP-543 Roof Vent and did a search and found this thread.
Glad to see that someone has one installed, which looks very nice BTW. Was hoping more than one person has used this fan. This fan option seems like a low cost, compact, discrete fan with easy operation. Only sits 2 5/16" above the roof and is 8" in diameter.
I like the dark black color, which looks more like some type of antenna than a vent.
Not sure if you would need an aux 12V battery to run this. 1.5amp draw is pretty low, right?
Power = 1.5amps x 12vdc = 18watts

I have a 2015 Ford Transit Connect LWB Van on order as my everyday vehicle, beach cruiser and sometimes camper. The only windows that open are the driver and passenger ones up front.
I have static windows on the dual sliding doors and rear barn doors. I'd really like to have some type of ventilation in the back to keep things from baking in the summer and provide some air if I'm sleeping in there. The height of the roof on the TC is 72.6" so this fan would be very visible. Installing anything bigger like a Fan-tastic Vent wouldn't look very stylish. The only other option I found on the web is a solar powered plumbing vent. The install process sounds easy but I'd sure be super nervous putting a jigsaw to the roof of a brand new van.

We have a fixed top. We have a fantastic fan AND a 14x14 vent. When it's 90F outside we need every bit of it to stay comfortable for sleeping.

sleeping in 90deg temps sounds pretty toasty.
where is it that warm at night?

Before we added the penthouse top we had two Fantastic fans in our van roof. An old 3 speed near the rear and a new 14 speed near the front. We did use both on occasion.

I might have been exaggerating a bit.

Around here - SE Washingtno/NE Oregon it can get up to 90-100F during the day. It usually cools down at night. But sometimes it will stay hot into the evening. So the outside air temperature does go down, but the entire van heats up and if there's no wind it stays uncomfortably hot inside 'way past bedtime.

We haven't tried camping in Arizona or anywhere really hot yet.

We have the Endless Breeze fan, which is basically a Fantastic Fan in a stand alone, 12v case. Works great and moves a lot of air. We usually put it blowing in or out of a rear window.

I don't think it's quite as good as the Endless Breeze, but we got this 10" rechargeable fan to put against the dog crate in our vehicles since I think it's more versatile. Runs off regular batteries, the built-in rechargeable batteries, or an included 12V cigarette lighter cord.
