Penthouse questions ...

Been absorbin' lots of good info on the SMB website and this forum but have a coupla questions maybe y'all can help with.

Is the penthouse the same length on an RB as on an EB? What's the actual length of it?

Is it always flush with the rear of the van?

Thanks in advance.

I look forward to the design/purchase process.

I'm pretty sure it is, on an EB like mine there is room for a fantastic fan and it starts behind the doors, whereas on an RB it starts in the middle of the doors. I haven't measured to see if the difference matches the extra length of an EB or anything, but I assume they're the same.

Yes, it matches the silhouette of the roof in front but on the other 2 sides and back fits into the rain gutter... so even on an EB it wouldn't move forward very well because it wouldn't fit the curve of the roof in back.

It's covered and there is a different one set in the PH.

Re: Penthouse questions ...

Not sure what the diff. is but the EB does cost about $400 more than the RB if I remember correctly. Must be something different

Re: Penthouse questions ...

The PH on my '06 EB is roughly 11'3" long.

Re: Penthouse questions ...

Looking at some posts of penthouse's on RB and EB vans and measuring mine I figure that the RB has about 24" of canvas between the two sided windows and that on the EB the canvas is stretched to 37" between the side windows. That would indicate to me that SMB has stretched the EB top about 12"-13" longer then the RB top.

My read is...

Do not know about the fiberglass top if they use the same part or not but as far as livable space is concerned Ford/GM supply 20" more space on the 'bottom' of the stretched vans and SMB supplies 12"-13" of more space on the 'top' of stretched vans.

Re: Penthouse questions ...

Well Len you're also in a Chevy... I wonder if they can use the same top between Chevy and Ford.

Re: Penthouse questions ...

Don't think so. I think the Chev has more crown in the roof. I wouldn't be surprised if the Ford penthouse bed wasn't an inch wider either. The Ford from the rear seems "squarer".

'Preciate all the info Folks.

Been playin' with the SMB design-it-yourself program tryin' to work out my floorplan.

For me, that's the sellin' point on these rigs ... gettin' exactly what ya want inside 'em.
