Please keep your eyes open for this van!

My friend's van was stolen while he and his family were on vacation in Oregon. Please check the link below for details. It's a white 2009 RB window van with a SMB west installed pop top. Plates 6GHV448. We need to get this resolved!

Thanks for your help!

Sweet, just checked as well! I'm so happy they got it back, let alone with most of their stuff. He got the top done just a couple months ago!

Since the van was recovered let's derail this thread..... ;-)

I have a dumb question......how do the security chips in the keys work (or not???). I'm assuming that they are some sort of RFID transponder since the keys don't have batteries....

OK, so I found a crude wiki on "immobilizer" technology........when starting ECU pings key and gets an alpha-numeric code back, allowing the vehicle to start.....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transponder_car_key

...so how are thieves stealing vehicles with this technology? they have a key with some sort of master code? Even if you pop the ignition, the van shouldn't start since the ECU is looking for a code........

Vans don't use any immobilizer, or chips in the keys. You pop the ignition and your off and running.

Unfortunately no suspects were arrested, but great news about getting the van, and all their gear, back.

Glad they got the van back, rare occurrence. Scott, any insight as to how the word got out on the radio show? Assuming your friends called the police, filed the stolen vehicle report, did they also call in to the show or did the cops? Either way, just goes to show community involvement gets results! We need more of it for sure.

What a relief. Especially since they were on a trip and all of their belongings (including baby seats) were in there.

I was notified by my friend (this guy's brother) who told me what happened and sent the link. I haven't been too involved, but I am super stoked to see that it was recovered and their belongings were safe. I can't help but think that wouldn't have gone as well in most other parts of the country! I honestly didn't expect to see this one returned.
