Pop top canvas repair needed

Hello, I have a 2008 Ford E350 SMB and the pop top canvas started to wear thru where the lockdown clamps rub against it when opening and closing both the front and back. The front canvas is a zip down solid tan canvas and the back is a fixed section of solid canvas. I tried a canvass patch and am afraid I made it worse. The patch keeps coming unglued and the canvas behind the patch is glue stained. Any advice on how to repair or replace or a similar experience would be much appreciated and very helpful. As a side note has anyone ever painted the inside of the canvas with a outdoor scene? If so how did it turn out. I am in Colorado Springs.

Just going to throw this out there: Back in the day of tent camping, we owned a large canvas tent which we had used for about 20 years
It developed wear marks & a small tear at the door zipper 1/2 up the door. We used 2 oval patches almost the same color of the tent. Put one on the inside and one on the outside so the two lined up, and then sewed them in place (I pushed the needle with heavy duty waxed nylon thread through one side, and my wife pushed it back through from the other side...until we were done). Worked out great - we did the same on the other side of the door so it looked like it was specifically put in place by the manufacturer (my OCD in gear again).
We sewed the patches on because all the other patched we ever glued or ironed on to gear never stuck successfully.

Hey thanks for the suggestion that may be the way I go I have a college landscape painting artist coming today or tomorrow to look at just painting a mountain, lake or forest scene over the mess I made.

I just found the mouse freeway hole in my top today. Time for the same patch job here.
