Pop-Top upkeep -- Repairing chips

I have a small 1/4 inch chip / hole in my pop-top.

What is the best solution for repair?

Thank you, this forum is the best!

Re: Pop-Top upkeep -- Repairing chips

I would contact SMB and see if they have tinted gel coat. If they don't have it then you can buy it and custom tint it yourself. If it's a small repair area fill it with gel, leave it slightly proud then sand it smooth, work your way up to 1000/2000, polish and then wax. It's a lot of work for a small chip but in the end you won't be able to see it. It's a lot of work, you can call a few marine shops around, if they have a gel coat guy it doesn't take a pro much time at all to fix a little area to perfection.

So I was thinking about Raptor liner and your repair. You could repair the chip with gel. Any marine supply store has gel coat repair kits on the shelf. Don't worry about color matching, fix the gel and apply a finish of your choice such as Raptor. Just food for thought. If you call in a pro it's going to cost $200+ more than likely and you could do a repair and finish for about the same.
