Re: Pulled over for not having mudflaps in WA!

In Alaska they have a "Anti Spray Device" law. You have to have Flaps to within 15" from the ground but I have mine to be easily removed when offroad or in the summer. In the winter I run the mudflaps to avoid the hastle. I have gotten off a couple of times with the "Opps I forgot to put them back on" story and as they are in the back I can put them right on. Only have to be on the rear.

I missed the RCW which says "down to center of axle"

http://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.37.500

Unusual that it is in the RCW, they are usually higher level and the WAC is more specific.

Are there any states that require them on the front?

Since you posted that, California passed a law requiring them in the front...

Thanks but I wouldn't be surprised. Think I should pull out the old soapbox... again?

It looks like:

A) Washington State would not require mud flaps if you have fender flares (eg Bushwackers)
http://www.wsp.wa.gov/traveler/passequip.htm

Fender Flares & Anti-Spray Devices
Required - All vehicles, trailers, and semi-trailers must be equipped with fenders, covers, flaps, or splash aprons adequate for minimizing the spray or splash of water and mud to the rear if the vehicle.

Nice to know this since I have bushwackers on the van from SMB. At least I will have this bit of arsenal if I get pulled over by a WA state trooper. I have been over by sherriff in the van but never state.

Re: Pulled over for not having mudflaps in WA!

I finally got around to installing 2 rear quick detachable mudflaps. I had to modify/cut it down to length though. dimensions stated they were 13x16x20 this did not include the bracket length!) so I had to cut a few inches off the 20" width!! and repaint. Will see if they rattle and plastic mudflap only 3 inches from my exhaust - will see if it holds up

Your post implies that this is a commercial - not home made - product.
Whats the brand?
Where did you get them?
How much?
