Question about Aluminess Shovel/Axe mount

Does the expedition mounting kit allow you to open the rear passenger door all the way or does it limit it?

Re: Question about Aluminess Shovel/Axe mount

On my rig it allows me to open the door a little wider than straight out -- which is sufficient for me. It looks like I could open the door another three inches if the shovel and and mounting kit were removed.

Having one installed tomorrow. Report back on the results.

Re: Question about Aluminess Shovel/Axe mount

Mine is now installed and it will open up slightly past 90 but I usually pin it there so no issues on my setup.

They have a new mount out that stacks them front to back instead of sided by side.

Re: Question about Aluminess Shovel/Axe mount

Thanks! Kenny at Aluminess sent me this photo of their new configuration. One lock to rule them all.

Re: Question about Aluminess Shovel/Axe mount

Looks like you could mount it further back and even get better clearance.

I like that one. As long as it didn't smack the tail light I just might install one.

Re: Question about Aluminess Shovel/Axe mount

If you travel washboard roads (and I know Tapatio does) watch out for this problem.

Re: Question about Aluminess Shovel/Axe mount

Thanks for the heads up Charlie. I went to the local auto parts store and bought some door edge guard strips. Cheap and perfect a fit.
