Re: Question about "Out of State" registration of a new SMB

I called Idaho and had it all set up to do my registration there. All I needed was an address which was being provided by a friend up there. Due to the insurance hassle, and the fact that I wasn't going to save that much, (twas before the latest fee doubleing here) I ended up with a CA registration.

Re: Question about "Out of State" registration of a new SMB

I see alot of advertisements in the back of the good sam's club magazine for registering RV's in Montana. Maybe you could call one of them and get your questions answered.

Re: Question about "Out of State" registration of a new SMB

Thanks to you all for the input.
Montana said no problem. Just need a local mailing address.
So it looks like our rig will have Montana plates.
Our son is bummed that although we'll be using his address
for registration he wont be driving the rig.
Now just gotta work on the insurance.

Re: Question about "Out of State" registration of a new SMB

Just a follow up
Just got our van registered in Montana as planned.
Sent the paper work to my son and took him just a few minutes.
No problem at all.
Boy I wish our DMV was that easy.

Re: Question about "Out of State" registration of a new SMB

For the record, Colorado doesn't require you to have an in state DL for anything that I've found so far- we have been here nearly two years with AZ and IN driver's licenses and nobody has batted an eye, even with the vehicles registered for 18 months or so. It helps that different agencies handle the DLs and the registration/plates.

Although I did just notice that my AZ DL has "Must notify change of address in 10 days" on the back, even though it doesn't expire until 2039... I guess I'm out of compliance and I doubt that they'll issue me a new license from out of state.

Driving through central Idaho- Orofino over Lolo Pass and down into Montana is god country.
Unfortunately, God turned out to be a realtor with a thirst for quick cash and a deep hatred of good zoning. Much of the Bitterroot Valley east of Lolo Pass is a huge subdivided mess with crappy roads and wildland fire problems. The classic bumper sticker from that area says "I drive US 93. Pray for Me" referencing the horrendous traffic on that north-south highway.

That said, congratulations on becoming a part time Montanan!

Re: Question about "Out of State" registration of a new SMB

Yea I was really referring to the Idaho side. Central Idaho is still wilderness how I remember as a kid. Not all developed like northern Idaho ie. Coeur D'Alene/Sandpoint areas.
My son lives in Bozeman and it is really growing too. A lot of sprawl going on the past few years. All said though it is always going to be one of our country's most beautiful areas in my opinion.
