Quigley Chevy conversion

How about this question: Do quigley conversions come with leaf or coil springs? I'm trying to figure out what kind of 4x4 quigley set up the 2000 GM might have. Owner drove it to the factory when brand new, said give me the standard 4x4 conversion and drove it back home. Doesn't seem to have much knowlege of what all came with the conversion. What would be the depreciation of a quigley conversion done in 2000 and has had 60000 miles put on it since then?

I've enjoyed reading the posts. Many thanks.

Re: Quigley Chevy conversion

The 'standard' Quigley would be the same system as GM pickups - IFS with torsion bars. They have neither coil springs nor leaf springs. But, they also have a ride height about the same a 2wd van.

Not sure if that holds true for 2000 model year or not.

Re: Quigley Chevy conversion

I'm pretty sure that Quigley used to install a solid front axle on the Chevy vans. Lately they install an IFS with torsion bar front springs. However I don't know when they changed from solid to IFS. A quick picture should tell the story. If the van has the solid front axle it will sit a lot higher than the stock van

Re: Quigley Chevy conversion

I *think* it was around '06 when the IFS setup first appeared. Before that it was only solid axle.

This is an '06 Chevy van with Solid Axle and coil springs:

It's a Ford Dana 60 front axle, with Quigley trailing arms. Newer Chevy Quigleys are all IFS. The was some overlap where both was available. I seem to think at one point the Chevy Quigleys had leaf springs, but I'm not 100% sure it was a actually a Quigley I was looking at.

on-edit. I found some info that in '99 Quigley used 56" double tapered leaf springs for the Chevy vans. I do not know when Quigley went from leaf to coils on the Chevy vans. A call to Quigley can probably find you the transition point.

Re: Quigley Chevy conversion

BTW - nice thing about leaf springs is it is a simpler setup, and probably not affected by some of the problems that coil-sprung Quigleys had (like track-bar bushings going bad and causing death-wobble). And.... I bet you can get upgrades from U-Joint since his conversions are also leaf springs over Dana 60 axles.
