Re-titling a conversion van as an RV

Anyone done this? I'm in Texas and my AllState insurance coverage is out of control. I've had a couple of insurance agents suggest getting it re-titled as an RV to lower the cost but they didn't know the process for Texas.

Is it a Sportsmobile? Do you have a RVIA sticker? Sportsmobile normally placed them to the rear of the van just below the Drivers tail light. This will help tremendously...looks like this:

Nope, mine is a home build, but I have a sink, toilet, fresh water, etc.

Each state is different of course. You need to look up what is required to re-title. It is pretty common for home built. You might also ask on expedition portal.

Maybe someone else from TX will reply.

Here is a thread about a skoolie that mentions forms:

You may save yourself some time and just contact the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles for direction/guidance...they should also be able to explain the qualification process (or at the very least send you any pertinent info). Just seems logical that you'll end out making that call at some point anyway.

As mentioned, every state is different... but after a quick search on the Texas DMV website, it seems like they don't make it easy for you.

I agree with calling the DMV and hopefully finding a sympathetic ear to talk to.

The Texas DMV is like the US Passport office right now, pretty much impossible to talk with someone or get anything done in person, that's why I was checking to see if anyone here had already done this before.

I talked to my insurance company, provided pics and description...look up the 3 or 4 things that define an RV (sink, ac outlets, etc)...They insured it as an RV....
Perhaps find an insurance company that cooperates....
