I think that's reasonable. I looked at both pop-tops and high-tops before I got my van. Depending on your parking situation at home you might want to make sure you'll still meet local ordinances. Where I live vehicles over a certain height are "oversize" and can't be street parked overnight.

Yup you'll get $2500.00 for a used in good shape pop top so it will pay for 1/3 of a new fiberine top installed.

I'm a big fan of Fixed tops, both fixed and pop tops have there advantages and disadvantages.

I wouldn't worry about height just put it on your dash. I come in at 10'6" with MaxxAir fan and haven't hit anything yet. Always carry a small gas arbor trimming saw in my rear box to cut low lying branches that are in my way when I'm in wooded areas.

That is the current going rate or a Fiberine top installed?
What does it cost to have a top supplied and picked up? Or delivered?

While I have had both a pop top and now a high top, I agree that I will never go back to a pop top. That being said, it's only the two of us, so sleeping area is not an issue. But on those trips with the grandkids now! I had to build a portable bunk above the bed in the back, another sleeps across the front seats leveled off with the porta pottie and numerous blankets and foam. Another sleeps on the floor. To be honest, it's not fun. The pop top, on the other hand, provided plenty of extra sleeping area, but lacked the storage. I am just saying, unless you plan on supplementing with a tent, sleeping for 5 in a high top is tight.

Fiberine 24 inch "Bubbletop" model is $3200 plus $450 crating fee and shipping cost to your location. Add in whatever is your cost of installation and you have now arrived at your installed cost!

I have this fantasy that I will find a Chevy van in the JY with a Fiberine top that I can remove and buy for a song!

Been singin that tune a longtime!

I've wanted to do the same thing, but postponing until after my South America trip as I want to be able to fit my van in a shipping container. I love the Tufport (http://www.sportsmobileforum.com/for...ons-22068.html) top and will likely go that route if I ever pull the trigger. I say go for it!

I was singing the same tune, except mines a Ford EB, so perhaps a little easier to find. I scoured the web pages of all the JY's around me everyday for months until one came in that I liked the look of. Scored a 24" High Top for $37.00 on half price day. Took three of us to get it off the donor and out to my trailer. It took the same three of us to place it on my van after the hole was cut too.

Having had a pop top on my VW Vanagon, I love the storage provided with a fixed high top. It's a huge difference space and comfort wise. Of course, at ten feet tall now (at MaxxFan) I can't use most drive thru's.

My vote is get a High Top

If you look at my original rig.
And the build inside
I would not have traded that for anything
