The load warrior/megawarriors both have fairings.....
I notice a huge difference in wind noise on my yakima crossbars with and without fairings. I have crossbars on the van and the daily driver.
Here are some typical shapes and associated coefficient of drag (Cd) for each shape.
Less drag=less wind noise....
I'm not sure why the sphere has a range of Cds....I suspect that the .5 number is a cylinder, since airfoils typically are about 1/10th 1/12th the drag of a cylinder....that's why they make fancy bladed bicycle spokes.
It's all about reducing the wake behind the bars.....airfoils put the airflow back together cleanly with little wake.
Yakima makes a snap-on plastic airfoil...you could try that....or fabricate something.
