Rusty washers on SMB top
I just got a look at the roof of my SMB top. The washers are very rusty. I haven't crawled up there with a ladder yet to check their structural integrity but has anyone had an issue with leaks in a similar situation?
I live in SoCal so I haven't had to worry about rain for a while.

easy enough to replace screws nuts and washers with stainless parts....and use some new butyl.
Since you are in Carlsbad, Marshall's hardware has the fasteners and maybe the butyl; otherwise Mcmaster Carr has the butyl.

Can you post a link to the butyl you used? Mcmaster has so much stuff I couldn't narrow it down so I ordered off Ebay and got what I think is perfect, but I'd love to know what the Mcmaster product is so I can bookmark it. I'm sure their stock is more reliable than an eBay seller.
Thanks

Thanks.
In your experience, are all of the 11 bolts and washers the same diameter and length? I understand that you need to cut them off when complete but what is the minimum length to get through the fiberglass and steel tubing?
I will take one out to measure before buying but jut wondered if anyone had that info.

The ones holding the wooden lift blocks are longer than the ones holding the tie-down hooks.......
I can't remember lengths, although the SMB ones are cut off/shortened.
I ended up using longer screws from the bottom up on the front block; those screws also hold two of my solar panels.

Pretty sure I used the 1 1/2" general purpose......comes in 50' rolls.
The 2" rolls are 25'.....I think the furring strips on the top are 2"...

Awesome, thanks. I have been curious for awhile. I think I paid a good bit less for it on eBay but, like I said, I trust Mcmaster Carr to have the right part at the needed time and that's not the case for any eBay seller.

Having just recently replace all the bolts, washers, nuts and sealing components on my SMB PH I think I recommend an upgrade to the original waterproofing method. I used butyl caulk (not Home Depot "butyl" added) from Graingers. You will see the brand and type in the picture. I fabricated butyl washers with a hole saw. The sheet butyl came from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Durometer-Smo.../dp/B000MAL0K2. I lightly applied butyl sealant to both sides of the butyl washers during installation. Everthing else was from McMaster Carr. Good luck.
