Saw a new Nissan Van

Okay, how about the love child of a Sprinter and Karl Malden?

Yeah, that is FUGLY. That NYC photo really captures that. Might help those who want a sprinter on a frame, though.

I'll admit, the paint job makes it worse, but it doesn't carry that ladder rack well.

Call me biased, but I like the profile of a snub-nosed or cabover vehicle over a long nose.

Re: Saw a new Nissan Van

I think it's hideous too, but the problem i have is that basically every new vehicle design is hideous when it comes out. Then over time, they grow on me, and i think "wasn't that hideous a couple of years ago?" I'm not condoning the looks of this long nose contraption, but we'll all probably get used to it and some will own one one day. Hated the sprinter at first too but sure wish i had one!

So, 86Scotty, in retrospect how do you feel about the AMC Pacer. Neat car, huh?

But you're right about the Sprinter. I didn't like it at first either. But now I do.

Re: Saw a new Nissan Van

Saw first one on the road in Santa Cruz this week, I don't see any hope here for improving the ugly factor....

Re: Saw a new Nissan Van

I had high hopes for this vehicle. I thought of a Sprinter with a domestic van price tag. In execution it is just an ugly panel truck.

What would I really like to see? How about a modern cab over style (think VW van) on a larger scale, with a metal high top and diesel?

I like the Sprinters as well, especially the newer models. But did you notice that the Sprinter's looks changed to resemble something more North American over the years? So much was written about the "superior-one box" design when they first hit these shores, yet it looks as if it now has that "archaic- two box" design used by the North American designs. I can only conclude that they made it boxier so they could sell more of them.
