Gotcha. The door is plywood, not MDF.

Sportsmobile cabinetry

A number of my cabinets have blistered and/or delaminated and I live in Morro Bay, CA which doesn't even get that hot during the summer. Frankly, its been a major disappointment with the Sportsmobile craftmanship or lack of.

With persistence and a few blisters, I eventually took off the entire sheet using heat, putty knives and fingers except for an area about 10” x 10” at the right lower corner. That area was well adhered and by that point I hadn’t cracked the sheet … “the enemy of good is better” (an old surgical aphorism). Also by keeping the one corner in place, I was hoping to maintain precise orientation of the laminate to the door. After scraping, sanding and cleaning the door, I was ready to glue the sheet back down. I used the dowel method as shown in the tutorial. In fact, I also used it as I removing the sheet from the door so I could easily grab the edging as I was scraping, prying and peeling. I used about a can of the DAP Weldwood HHR Contact Adhesive. Spraying was kind of messy, so I reverted to @boywonder’s recommendation and painted the glue using an old 2” paint brush. After rolling, I blocked and clamped it down. So far, so good. I have about 1/16” overlap at the top which I will grind down with a Dremel before reapplying the molding. Now, two questions: When I removed the molding, I noticed that it was glued down in strategic places around the door. What adhesive should I use? I’m thinking of using the same one I used for the laminate. I’m not planning to remove the molding ever again Are there other less permanent adhesives that might be wiser?

The cleanest and fastest way to trim the extra laminate is a router with a laminate trimmer bit....or better yet a laminate trimmer with a laminate trimmer bit.

Thanks. I also re-read your tutorial. It’s superb. I am not going to use any glue when I reinstall the molding. Heading to Home Depot today to get a router and a laminate trimmer bit.

I finished the project several weeks ago. I used a router to trim the edges of the laminate. I only had to trim about 1/8” from the top and ~ 1/16” from the sides. I replaced the molding around the door without issues and did not use any glue. The door is back in the van and so far so good. We’ve some hot days in Phoenix recently (110 degrees today, 115 yesterday). And I thought summer was over
I wouldn’t hesitate to tackle a project like this again, but I hope I don’t have to. Thanks to everyone for your knowledge, advice and encouragement.
