I think both are true. Certainly draining from both sides, if possible, will solve the problem. Standard RV components are pretty cheaply made though, and this product has been in production, unchanged, for about 40 years. It's cheap plastic and sun exposure will kill it. That goes for all of the hatches, outlet covers, roof vents and everything else SMB's borrow from the Camping World catalog.
