My van is a bit taller than most so I don't worry too much about anything above the diff's but have always wanted a plate to cover the Starcool. I've got an EB and drag the tail from time to time and have to be careful going over a sharp crown but the only damage I've had (twice) is dragging a differential. Seems to happen when I least suspect like crawling over medium sized boulders. The Dynatrac covers have a small lip that can get caught on a rock depending which way you're goin. I've always worried that a plate under the differential might get pushed up causing more issues. I did grind off that lip and so far no other issues.

I always thought of skid plates as standard off road gear. Even "easy" trails can have tricky spots. And I don't know about the rest of you, but I have been known to make a mistake. One negative about the Sprinter is that currently there are no skid plates from SMB.
