Smittybilt Defender Rack

Looking to purchase a basket cargo rack for my 03 E350 and was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Smittybilt Defender Racks. Looking at the 9.5' bolt together rack that they have. Would love to go with aluminess but not enough money in the budget. If anyone has any other rack suggestions please let me know. Thanks

Not sure how they're priced, we've got a modular aluminum rack we've been building and will have a dedicated page on the website soon for them. Price is $1699 for a RB van, rack can ship UPS.

I had a Defender rack years ago, I worked for the company that made them when originally created. It was nice, a bit heavy and the powder coating eventually exposed rust/etc.

Re: Smittybilt Defender Rack

Another option would be a Yakima Mega Warrior roof basket. (The Yakima Load Warrior is similar but smaller)

They are 48 " wide and nearly six feet with one extension. They can be made as long as you want buy adding additional extensions and requisite load bars. They can be found used on Craigslist for between $200 and $350, often with the extension included. Additional new 22" extensions are around $150 on Amazon. They are well made , robust and look pretty darn good. A mesh base can be added if needed to provide more of a flat surface.

They normally mount to Yakima or Thule cross bars, but with a little creativity could be mounted to any cross bar or strut.
