Sofa, Fabric or Ultraleather

G'day, would you install at SMB West fabric or Ultraleather on your new build eb50 sofa?

Fabric. More comfortable in hot weather.

Re: Sofa, Fabric or Ultraleather

If you have pets, or small children, I'd go with ultraleather, Very durable, and easier to clean.

Unless the pets are cats. Cats will sharpen their claws on leather like materials and make many, many small holes.

They are doing you a favor, helps the leather breathe to keep you cooler.

Which is why you need to keep their claws trimmed and buy the poor kitty a scratching post or scratching pad for her needs! Many cats like those corrugated cardboard toss-away pads. Ours, of course, was not the slightest bit interested, but we got her a post that sits between the front seats when we are parked, and in the doorway footwell while moving. She sleeps most of the time on the drive, anyway, except when she is in the passenger's lap looking at the stuff going by.

Contrary to popular belief, cats can be trained and will do what you want, with some work, usually.

Re: Sofa, Fabric or Ultraleather

Hi. No Pets, just me and wife of 36 years. Fabric seems to be the general consensus.

Re: Sofa, Fabric or Ultraleather

We've owned both materials in other campers, with and without dogs, and we prefer ultraleather. We also almost always have at least a sheet covering the sofa, many times a light blanket too. It's easier to wash the sheets and wipe the vinyl if necessary. We also favor water sports so being able to be wet and eat lunch is necessary. Eradicating fabric has become a pastime of ours.

That being said, the fabric Subaru uses is quite impressive. Last I heard kayaking funk is unable to penetrate the cloth seats in the Outbacks NOC uses for white water training. Except for the drive to the first location we rode around in them soaked all day. We even forgot our water logged gear in it once overnight and man did it stink when we opened the doors. The car smelled fine when we returned from a 5 mile paddle. The gear never seems to lose its funk, just the way it is.
