Spare tire

Has anyone mounted a 285/70/17 in the stock spare tire area underneath? I've been getting conflicting info, some say it will fit and some say it won't. I'm curious if anyone has done it?

Thanks

Re: Spare tire

Your tire is about the same size as my 275/70-18. In some brands they are the same height or yours is slightly smaller (32.7-33").

I mounted my spare underneath. I did have to bend the tabs that locate the spare so it would go into place. That was before I aquired an Aluminess spare mount for the back of the van.

This summer we are planning a long trip to Labrador/Newfoundland and need to have the storage box on the back of the van, so the spare will go back underneath for the trip.

The answer is: It will fit. But it is not a direct fit, some adjustment needed.

Re: Spare tire

I think you have conflicting information as it will also depend on EB vs RB, what style toe-hitch you have mounted, and how far you are prepared to let it hang down.

Re: Spare tire

I tried to get mine (285/70/17) to fit underneath and it wouldn't due to the evap/emissions canister that is mounted directly in front of where the stock spare fit. Put a spare carrier on the back of ours.
