Sportsmobile or Class C RV?

Getting back into camping. 2000-2002, we RV'd in 28' Class C.
Now retired, wanting to see Nat'l Pks etc, and thinking of a Sportsmobile.
Hubby would like to fit it in our garage. Will we feel "cramped" he's 6' and 290#; I'm not.
Hoping some experienced Sportsmobilers can give us input.
We are going w/used. Seniors on modest income. Thanks.

Re: Sportsmobile or Class C RV?

Unless you've got a larger than average garage you might want to look at Sportsmobiles with the low profile version of the penthouse (for the life of me I can't think of what they are called now), or a different manufacturer GTRV which makes tops that match the original roof line.

I'm bigger around than your husband, but stand at the same 6'0" and don't find the van cramped... well with the top down and trying to cook or manuver inside the van when my wife is also there can be a challenge, but it is managable.

It is very nice to be able to drive it anywhere and not be restricted to RV campsites and such.

Re: Sportsmobile or Class C RV?

What I really like about our sportsmobile is that I can easily park and drive it anywhere (with the exception of some really low overhead parking garages) that our car can go. You really can't practically do that in even the smallest class c's They are wider and longer than many parking places. And, I would not relish the thought of driving one of them in some of the windy highways and bridges that we have in the Bay Area.

When we camp though, we are really outdoors. The inside is only for sleeping and storage. We bring along a nice screen room and set that up as our living space.

Good luck with your search.
