The big question for me is towing. Fully loaded and towing a big surf boat over the cascades about cooks my 6.0 and same with my old 7.3. I can’t see a sprinter handling a 10 mile 6% grade towing a huge load in 85 degree temps. Not that my ford do much better but impossible is what comes to mind with a sprinter. Am I way off? I end up towing a lot.

You are definitely not off. Sprinters aren’t for heavy towing duty. I don’t know the ratings though.

Keep in mind the Sprinter is not SAE J2807 rated, which it may not meet the same performance metrics as most other modern vehicles, at its max tow rating.

188 hp isn't much to work with.... Granted, the PSD motors were only rated for 215 (7.3) and 225 (6.0) so a Sprinter could potentially have a similar HP-to-weight ratio.

EcoBoost is the way to go if you want want max towing power.
