Thanks all,

Did the fuse blow on the fan itself or on the panel? I don’t recall my fan having its own fuse. If it’s blowing on the panel it could be that the other fan is seized or otherwise tripping it.

Hey, Brian.

My forward fan is blowing the 20a fuse on the panel. I'm just trying to get it to work with the van AC. I'm not plugged into shore power, or trying to get the Starcool compressor to run. However, my other fan underneath is seized.

Thanks,

On my 06 both fans operate on shore power but while driving only the front radiator fan runs.

BTW I also don't recall the fans having a fuse. When you reverse the leads, the fan will simply run backwards. SMB even hooked up the front radiator fan so it was trying to push air forward through the radiator which is backwards.

I'd try hooking the fan up to a separate 12 source and see if it works OK. While it's disconnected try to operate the system to see if it still blows the panel fuse. Sounds like the blowing fuse might be a different issue.

Does the new fan turn freely? If your other fan is seized, are you certain the blown fuse is not for the second fan? Are you trying to make the rear evaporator fan (the one inside in the back) run? As DaveB said, disconnect the wiring to the motor and see if it still blows the fuse, if it does, it's not the motor

The two fans have their own fuse, the aux condenser fan should only be on when van is not running. I attached a flowchart of the various paths via the relay panel.

I sure wish I'd had that flowchart when I was figuring the wiring diagram out, it would have saved me a bunch of burned up brain cells, well done.

Hey All,

Thanks for all the information. The flowchart is especially helpful, Greg. I will report my findings when I get a chance to test.

Concerning the relays: are 30 amp relays acceptable to use as replacements?

Thanks again,

Todd

Those should be fine. Check all the wires going to the relays, the last starcool problem I helped with ended up being a bad crimp and one of the wires fell off.

Hey All,

I have replaced my front fan and its associated relay. I have disconnected power to the seized auxilliary fan, but have not replaced it. Currently, when in 12v assist mode (driving mode) the blower motor runs, but the front fan does not come on. However, when I crank my generator and engage the Starcool III, the blower motor, front fan, and compressor all engage and start running.

Before I disconnected the auxilliary fan, the 20a fuse for the front fan would blow every time I engaged the 12v assist mode. Disconnecting the aux fan remedied that.

So, any idea why the front fan is not operating in 12v assist (driving) mode?

Thanks again,

Todd

Hey All,

I'm trying to get clarification on what this box underneath my 2001 SMB is. SMB Texas says it is a "capacitor box". The problem is that the mounting tabs have broken off on one side and it is unattached. It was previously mounted to the underside of the floor of the van. I need to reattach it to something. I'd appreciate any information. Sorry, looks like the image was rotatated. The box is above the forward mount of the left leaf spring(s).

Thanks,

Todd
