Re: Suburban vs 4x4 Van in the snow

I had an experience a couple of weeks ago that applies directly to this. I drove about 15 miles in some pretty snowy and slushy conditions heading up to Mt. Bachelor with a buddy behind me in his late model Suburban. When we got there he commented on how nasty the road was and how he was all over the place and having a tough time keeping up with me. I felt stable and in control the whole way.

I'm not saying that vans are necessarily better than Suburbans, but I am saying that my experiences do not line up with the comments about vans being no good in the snow. Quite the opposite actually. Tires of course have a lot to do with how well any vehicle performs in it.

Re: Suburban vs 4x4 Van in the snow

I had both a 2004 suburban as daily driver and a 2006 Sportsmobile. As I mentioned last page in identical conditions hands down the van is better in every way. It really isn't even a fair comparison. I would chose the van over the suburban in conditions any day of the week.
