Re: Suggestions: stand alone inexpensive carport for 4x4 SMB

Center height of that awning is 10'2".

I suck at geometry.

What's the height of your rig?

Might be more than you want to spend, but this outfit's out of LA, and this page seems to have some "LA only' specials that are a pretty good deal.

I love mine. Found on Craigslist for $100. It really keeps the van cool here in Phoenix. Our monsoons will launch these into the air, so I have since secured it down pretty tight. Beware: HOA's love to hate awnings and tents.

I love it too.

Do you know the make/model of it?

Or at least the center height?

Thanks for sharing.

My neighbor had one configured with ends and sides, basically a double garage. Still going strong.

If you live anywhere with even a bit of UV, the cheap fabric ones don't hold up very long. Out here with the high UV and lots of wind, you'd be lucky to get a year out of one. They are pretty wobbly as well.
I have one of these. The company name is now Carolina Carport. The van is not parked under it but it is used as a boat shed. Very stable, mine hasn't been anchored for a while. I moved it a couple years ago and never re anchored. The sides would have to be longer than standard to fit the van. The only draw back I've seen with the taller ones the needs a little cross stabilization. Mines been around probably 10 years. Hope this helps.

Re: Suggestions: stand alone inexpensive carport for 4x4 SMB

I'd quick estimate the height at 9' and 12' in center. There's a few ways you could extend this if needed.

I can never seem to leave well enough alone. Three of the four poles were really in the way. So I created a truss and bolted it to the wall and a fence post. I now have the space back. The downside is that if the neighbors get wind of this, it's afixed to the house. And I'm now a big-time zoning offender.
