Just sent in payment on a Ravelco today. No distributors near Cleveland, Ohio, so they're shipping me the unit with instructions on install.

Wondering if anybody has installed this themselves, and, if so, how easy were the instructions to follow?

I think I paid $475-ish with discount.

As to a self install, if you can use a soldering iron, heat shrink tube, and have a basic understanding of how to solder wires, you should be Ok. Personally, I’d have it professionally installed. Make an appointment with an installer, and turn it into a mini vancation and drive there/ camp.

Does the Ravelco work on vans with solar? Are all batteries cut off so solar charging while parked won't happen? I have a button I can push to start the van via the house battery. Will this be an issue? Thinking about these units for the van as well as the Jeep. I need to contact my insurance to see if they'll give me a discount if I install one.

Ravelco just interferes with the starting / ignition circuit, none of the RV systems will be affected, but you will not be able to start via the house battery unless the Ravelco "key" is inserted.

...and I might add that having it installed knocked off $101 from my annual insurance premium with Safeco. Your mileage may vary.

If you're with State Farm, don't expect any insurance discount.

Ravelco sounds like a great system, however, the party that purchased my SMB had a CompuStar System installed. You might want to check out their products at the below link:

Good luck to you on whatever you decide to do.
