If you use 1der's brackets, you won't have any maintenance. Mine have held up over many years of serious off road abuse, and have yet to come loose, and they don't require you to drill any holes in the van. They are solid enough that when some slime ball tried to steal a Fiama, they were able to rip two of the three brackets off, but couldn't get the last one loose despite having a ton of leverage on it. Sometimes you need to do a little tweeking due to minor differences in how the doors are fitted, but mostly they are easy to install and have never caused me any issues............

I did not have any issue with the awning as a result of driving (on 4X4 roads). Not to say that might not have developed as I'm now into year 17.
The wind was my nemesis and not securing the support poles to the ground.
It is very well secured to the SMB and I have no worries (knock on wood).
WoW someone actually tried to steal your Fiama...your being to nice with "slime ball".
