@boywonder - your theft protection creation is a work of art.
I had read somewhere a great deterrent was wrapping chicken wire around the cat numerous times, along with the pipes fore & aft... since the stuff "expands" easily it creates havoc with a Sawzall blade (gets all tangled up in it). I've experienced similar using a hand saw too close to chicken wire; the wire catches and just invites itself into your project...so it made perfect sense to me.

So feed stores are going to have a run on chicken wire along with the horse dewormer? What kind of dystopian nightmare are we in?

I don't have experience with any cutouts that have been durable but I'm sure the price follows the quality or support as with most items.

The advent of the cordless sawzall has been a key driver in these thefts since they are quick and relatively quiet. By the time most people figure out what's happening it's far too late. There have been many instances of the thieves being armed as well so take caution (or go in ready anyway).

Interesting. My tail pipe broke off the muffler while on a trip and I just drove it like that for a couple weeks. Then suddenly, my diesel heater wouldn't start and it turned out that the plastic fuel line had partly melted where it was zip tied up. When I dropped the spare tire I noticed it was coated with what looked like tar on the top. What I discovered was that the heat from the exhaust had melted the undercoating that then dripped on to the spare. I had no idea it would get that hot from just the exhaust gas collecting under the van, so, it would probably be a good idea to take a look under there now and then.............
