That's strange - Michelin D rated tires have a maximum load rated inflation of 65 psi. Same with Goodyear and the dreaded Calisle (trailer only) and Yokos. So BFG is a standout if its only max rated at 50 psi making its D rated tires equivalent to (say) Michelin C rated.

Also checking into the Tire Rack and the OEM sites, all concur that you must set the tire pressure for the rated maximum load that your axle is carrying and NOT the maximum rated load of the tire. In other words they are saying there is no up side and there may be over inflation issues to setting a E rated tire at 80 psi all round just because you can. And in fact many truck OEMs spec their E rated tires at 80 psi maximum load for the rear only and 65 psi for the fronts assuming E rated tires are fitted all round.
