Tire carriers for E350 1997

On my old E150 1986 was such piece on a back door, it normally worked.

On E350 1997 I want to use such fastening. I do not plan to make heavy rear bumper, but I want to remove wheel from under a body. I used 33", but spare wheel may be it is less.

I see in ebay and shop about such things:

http://www.discountvantruck.com/vantire ... rriers.htm

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Custom-S ... 4ce3380759

Back door loops Econoline 1992+ have other device, than in 1975-91. It is inconvenient for installation. I do not understand while - as this decision is made and as it works on new body.

Pls, tell - what to buy, to have reliable fastening (as it worked on old body).

Your second link (to ebay) has the right picture but the wrong price.

This has the wrong picture but the right price. I think the basic Surco tire carrier is the TF200 for the ford van.

http://www.racksforall.com/surcofordtir ... later.aspx

I have a 1995 and have mounted the Surco. It has advantages and disadvantages.

The biggest advantages are that it is cheap and simple.

The disadvantages are you have to drill 4 holes in your door and when you open the door, the larger tires run into the rear light (I have not broken mine yet-mostly just leave that door closed). I don't now how it would hold up to rough use but it is pretty robust/solid when the door is closed.

It is the opposite of the Aluminess tire mount in most ways but it does work well.

Once you move the tire out from under the van, you can cut out the big tire carrier and mount a storage box underneath.

Good luck.

Re: Tire carriers for E350 1997

FYI, I have Sportsmobile's Trojan tire carrier (the one designed to work without a custom bumper), and am not thrilled with it. With wear (bumpy roads), it tends to shake and sag over time.

Re: Tire carriers for E350 1997

It seems like something you could fabricate- they are pretty much just a loop of metal supported by the door hinges and the door itself. I used to have one on my '79 chevy just like it so it's not a new concept. With shipping to Russia and fit issues for large tires, I would think building your own would be more economical.

Anyone know how far back the aluminess bumpers go. It looks like the 92-07 E350's are pretty much the same, but I wonder if they are.

Re: Tire carriers for E350 1997

I already have assembled a few information, it is not pleasant to me. Fastening on old body was reliable as came directly on hinge strains. On new body carrier fastens for thin metal of a door, it is very bad... New door hinge strains hidden...

I think, I will made a design similar on Trojan. Thanks all for opinions.
