Toyo Open COuntry LT285 R-16's ??

I know there are lots of posts on tires, tire choices etc but I thought I would ask for some feedback, on a planned purchase, before I pull the trigger.

Currently my 98 4X4 SMB wears a set of 33" BF Goodrich M/S that have plenty of open tread and have had great success off-road. They certainly are not worn out but I recently got an extra set of rims and was looking to put something less aggressive on the second set. These would be for the weekends camping in the state parks, trolling the freeways and highways to try to save my M&S for the back country stuff.

Id like to get any feedback from folks that have Toyo's. Like em? Hate em? anything to watch out for. If you have them, would you buy em again and if not, what would you get?

I was quoted $1200 for a set of 5 plus tax. - Fair price?

I assume you mean the AT's? It is either AT (all terrain) or MT (mud terrain) or HT with the Open country. I have the MT's on the van and like them a lot. I have considered putting the AT's on my daily driver which is also a 4x4. Currently running Michelin LTX M/S which have treated me well.

Thanks for the clarification question. The LT is actually the 'Light Truck' and I was looking at the All Terrains over the MT as my BF's are my M&S tire

Hi I have the Open Country AT on my 4x2 I much prefer them to the BFG I have on my 4x4 Mitsubishi...

I have them on my Diesel E350 EB 4x4. Love them so far, road handling is exceptional and they performed well in the snow, ice and rain. I have not taken them on any significant sand or gravel yet so I cannot on their suitability there.

The only thing I paused at was the "D" load rating. But since mine has not had its RV conversion yet I figured I would go with the comfort and still be well within the load limits.

Thanks all for the input. I questioned the D rating also, but Schwab said 3300lbs per tire and that is consistent with a 122 rating I found digging around. That gives me 13000lb for the van and I weight in, with fuel, water, gear and two passengers at under 9000lb. that was last weigh and I have lightened since then as I plan for a kayak on the roof!. Now I haven't put a scale under each wheel but at 9000lb I doubt I am pushing any single wheel over 3300lb but .. I reserve the right to get smarter so I will see about getting it weighed per wheel. Never hurts to know.

I think I am going to pull the trigger so I will let you know how they run. THANKS AGAIN FOR REPLYS!

Hi I am not sure what the US weight ratings are but mine are 120 which is about 3000lbs (1400kg) per tire... that would be 12000lbs (5600kg) guess that is not enough for you

Yes provided the weight is evenly distributed which generally is not the case. You need to weigh each point of the vehicle then choose the correct rated tire.
