Transfer Flow 46 Gal Tank Question

Adding a diesel furnace to my Ď06 E350 6.0 EB. It has the TF 46 gallon tank.

Looking for a tank removal video but all Iím seeing are vids for the pickup. Anyone know if the fuel tanks are the same between van and pickup?

The 46 Transfer flow tank is not stock, but pretty straight forward to drop, 2 straps holding it up, Itís best to run your fuel as low as you can, even when the low fuel light goes on, thereís still a good amount left in the tank, maybe 5 gal in my case. There was an extra port already drilled out that was covered with a plate or a rubber plug that I was able to use for the new heater pickup.

While your tank is out, consider doing the "harpoon" and other modifications to improve the venting and usable capacity, if not already done. The TF46 van tank typically has ~41 gals usable since it does not fill the top ~10% of the tank due to venting restrictions.

Lots of threads here on SMBforum re: TF tank issues, mods.

As REF suggested, drain the tank as much as possible before removing. Running the heater fuel pickup tube to within an 1/8 - 1/4" of the bottom of the tank is absolutely the right call.

The TF46 tank is a proprietary design shared by Quadvan and SMB. I doubt the pickup snd van tanks are the same.

1der and Ref, thank you so much!! Contemplating trying to do a video of my effort.

Iíve read a few threads saying itís best to just cut the straps and replace them. Is that sound advice?

I love this forum.

We were able to reuse the straps, mostly out of time constraints of sourcing material and making new ones, although I was keen on replacing them, they were still fine.

Garage
I reused the straps as well (nothing wrong with them), but replaced all the hardware with new, and put new rubber between the straps & tank.
