Re: Transporting a Sportsmobile to Fresno and Back (Denver)

I think you also need to tell them you need to have the SMB professionally inspected by Ford (nice and expensive) to make sure all factory systems were not damaged, and a qualified 4 wheel drive specialist mechanic to ensure that the front axle and transfer case were not damaged by their irresponsible driver. Or tell them they need to fly in (at their expense) a technician from SMBw to verify there wasn't any damage. Don't be in a rush to "sign off" on anything anytime soon.

BTW, be sure to inventory anything and everything you had in the van (e.g. tools, bars of gold bullion,...) and make sure all the auxiliary systems work. I assume there is a (state?) licensing for interstate transporters? Find out who and get them involved immediately.

Transporting a Sportsmobile to Fresno and Back (Denver)

Ok, I take it back. I'm glad I didn't have your patience.

Wow! I really don't have words.

Jage,

This is a messed up situation. I'm sitting here dumbfounded because I can't believe anyone would actually have the gall to do that to you and expect to get away with it. You need to go for the b@lls on this and not let go until you're completely satisfied.

That's just messed up.

Re: Transporting a Sportsmobile to Fresno and Back (Denver)

This sucks. I'd be a long time getting over being mad about this.

Just a couple of thoughts....no way to undo it, maybe you get a free ride home by challenging credit card and get the company to send you a couple of thousand to extend your warranty or cover possible repairs.

Be nice if the scumbag driver would give you a candid account. Where he went and how long were the hubs locked. Not likely. He may if he is off the hook....probably not.

If your local law enforcement/da is friendly, there may be a misappropriation or theft charge of some type here. Essentially, he took your $100,000 car for a joyride. Be nice to have him arrested. Might be nicer to have a warrant issued for his arrest and have him be out of state....might interfere with his sleep.

If you can get criminal charges filed, it provides a good venue for him to give a complete/accurate statement, under oath, when he cuts a deal.

Again, very sorry to hear about this. ********.

Jage,
This make me sick. Where is the integrity in people today? I have LOOONG distrusted any auto businesses. I can tell many many stories of lying people who were caught red handed. Why can't people just be responsible. I hope everything on the van is OK.

Wow, I can't believe this! Makes me sick!

I'd do similar to Tom...talk to the driver, explain your observations and let him know NOW is the time to be honest with you. Tell him your next step is to get in contact with the local police force, as well as the DMV/DOT. Also, explain that he crossed state lines, is putting his commercial driving license at stake, etc. I would make it very clear you aren't effing around.

Re: Transporting a Sportsmobile to Fresno and Back (Denver)

Just wondering, would it explain it if the guy put the van on a dolly and just took a slightly longer route? It might not have been what Jage paid for, but it could explain the mileage.

Oops, it would not explain the fuel tank. Never mind, people are scum.

Jage,
Been off the forum for a couple days with stress at work. Come on here to unwind and read this! This is disgusting what they did.

There must be an attorney on here who can PM you with some advice.

Sorry to hear of this Jeremiah.

Re: Transporting a Sportsmobile to Fresno and Back (Denver)

Jeremiah,

I've put off responding to this post for several days because everytime I even think about what happened I get angry. Somebody needs to have his masculine parts removed - with a hacksaw!
It's not just the miles, or the 4wd. But you know a lowlife like that will not take care of your equipment. Ok, he will abuse it.

Anyone have some bad, bad biker dude inlaws that can take care or the hacksaw part?

Hopefully you have some recourse. Contacting the State Attorney General in every state he might have driven through, contacting Motor Vehicle Departments and let them know he wasn't insured while driving through their states, firebombing his house.

I'm really sorry this happened and I need to end this before I come up with more good ideas.

Best wishes on a good outcome.

Mike
