Yes. At some point we discussed this. 285s will generally fit on EBs, but not on RBs.

I have the under floor storage. It does fit a lot of stuff but I basically need to pull everything out of the back to get to it. I try to put just emergency type items in there.

I really like the boxes that have been dedicated to a 'kitchen' type set up. It would be really nice to be able to pull into a camp spot, quickly make something to eat and then go to sleep.

I might just convert my current box into that and figure something else out. I am starting to not like the spare on the roof idea.

Yeah, 285's will fit in the stock location on RB's if you either do not have a hitch on the van or you have the angled hitch. It will not fit if you have the flat across tow hitch.

Angled:

X2 on talking you out of spare on the roof. Been there and done that, what a PITA to get it up there, and even get it down. I had one on my old Samurai as well, lower, easier, but still a pain, especially by yourself.

I built a front hitch (from an old class III receiver hitch from a Ford) welded it between the frame rails, then built my own tire carrier and hung the spare on the front. The wheels I have are pretty open, and must flow a lot of air to the radiator, as I've paid close attention and never noticed increased water temps, even while towing.

A roof rack is great though, perfect for less used things, easy up, folding camp table, chairs, firewood, skis, snow shoes, small bbq. I have a Yakama rocket box that I sometimes put up there, to keep things out of the elements.

Thanks.

I haven't really thought about it before, but if you wanted tandem rear boxes without giving up underfloor and tank space, you could put the spare on a roof rack.

I'd do about anything before I put a spare on the roof. Rocket box on the roof, add a Trasharoo to your existing spare (they can hold a lot of stuff), or add on to the top of your spare with one of those rounded storage pod things. Maybe someone can help me remember who makes those?

I was thinking inside a cage type roof rack and secured with ratchet chains and/or a very serious bolts and locking nuts
